In general a newt should live more than 5 years at least that is what my own experience tells me and what I have read seen and heard. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes newts are generaly long lived creatures with some living for over 20 years in captivity, although they would struggle to live to such an advanced age in the wild, due to predetors disease etc.

I recently read in newspapers that temple newts in Japan live over 60 years. I wonder if anyone has newts that live half as long as that.

It also depends on how well the people take care of their newts and species....Eastern Newts are a hard to care for specimen
